The Band Write-Up

Kim Seng Wind Symphony(KSWS) began its humble musical path on 27 September 1992 as an amateur community centre band, then known as Pioneer Wind Symphony, with a handful of enthusiastic musicians under the baton of Mr. Quek Boon Hui.

Tan Tuan Hao succeeded the highly experienced Tan Aik Koon as Resident Conductor in 2007. Previous Resident Conductors of KSWS include Japanese Maestro Takahiro Oura, Andy Sim, Tan Beng Wee and the immensely talented Chan Peck Suan.

Since its inception, the Band established a reputable position in the local music scene, with its very own annual concert series. It was the first community band in Singapore to perform at Istana Park in the new millennium. The Band was also invited to be the guest-performing band for the annual Band Fiesta.

The highly versatile band has performed a wide spectrum of music from orchestra transcriptions and a comprehensive range of concert band music. It strives to keep abreast of its time with popular renditions like Moulin Rouge and The Phantom of the Opera.

Kim Seng Wind Symphony brings together enthuastic musicians from different age group, race, religion, drawing on their common love - music.

Today, the journey continues, towards providing a platform that will encourage our young musicians to achieve greater heights of artistic excellence.
